OBJECTS
FOR USE: Handmade by Design September 13, 2001, through January 6, 2002 OBJECTS FOR USE: Handmade by Design is an extensive national survey of 200 artists who create unique, stunning handmade objects that combine function with beauty. The exhibited work represents 189 studios from all regions of the United States, from one-person studios to workshops employing up to 20 people. Holly Hotchner, Director of the American Craft Museum, notes, "This exhibition celebrates work by some of the most gifted artists and artisans working today, representing the highest realization of the handmade object." This exhibition is the second in the American Craft Museum series Defining, Craft, in which the Museum seeks to identify and interpret all aspects of contemporary objects worldwide. This exhibition is made possible with a generous grant of public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency. Additional support for the exhibition is provided by: EZlBA, a retail source for handcrafted items; Deutsche Bank; and the Collectors Circle, a distinguished membership support group of the American Craft Museum. |
